How to find an honest device repair company in your area

Before replacing an appliance, it is worth a service call to find out exactly whats wrong. Many times people will buy a new washer, dryer or dishwasher without even checking what it would take to fix the one they have. They assume it will cost too much, sometimes its a quick, less and cheap repair. Unfortunately, there are many companies out there who only care about how much money they can make you spend, no matter how small your repair can be. So how do you find an honest company? Here are some guidelines to help you find the right repairer for the job.

Try to get a referral from a friend or employee

The best way to find a good company is Referral. When someone you know recommends a repair service for appliances they were completely satisfied with your search could be over. Ask them about the service, the cost, their professionalism and if they really think this was an honest deal. Be sure to trust this persons opinion.

Check for license and insurance

The company should have a license and liability insurance. It should say Licensed & Insured in their phonebook and on their website. Make sure their license and insurance are up to date.

Check how long the company has been on business

See how long theyve been in business in the same place and under the same name. A company with a long local history is a better bet than a new commission without history in the area. Beware of companies that advertise with local phone numbers but are actually based in a city that is not local at all.

Beware of companies that spend a lot of money on advertising

A company that takes out the entire pages ads in the phone books and has expensive websites on the internet pays a lot of money into advertising costs. How do you suppose they get the money to pay for all that? Usually in higher fees they charge the customer. Check out the companies with smaller phone book ads and those who build their own websites. They save money on their overhead costs, which means they can charge their customers less than their competitors.

Look for customer reviews

Make sure the companies you check out are listed in the big companies online directories. These directories allow customers to write a review about their business experience listed. You can learn a lot about a company from these reviews.

Large company vs. small family owned companies

Weigh the benefits of the personal attention youll get from a small family-run company to the unknown technologies that a larger company sends. A local person has a reputation to maintain. However, a representative of a major national chain may be concerned about giving you the best deals or services. A good rule of thumb when comparing service companies is: The bigger the deal usually means, the greater the price.

Ask to talk to the technology they send

Its okay to ask the name of the technician who will service your device and pray to talk to him / her. You should ask them how long they have repaired appliances and if they will talk to you about your problem by phone. If they are honest they will discuss your problem with you. If you explain the symptoms you are experiencing, they should be able to give you some opportunities for what kind of repairs you need. If they will not talk to you about it, its a red flag and you should continue.

Ask a question

For example, Hi, I have a Kenmore top load washer. It will not agitate or spin but it still drains. If all I needed was a motor connection (part no. 285753A), how much would the repair cost me? I understand you can find other things wrong and that the appreciation you give me over the phone can change, but all I ask is how much it would cost me all you need to do where to change the engine connection ? If they do not answer the question, its a red flag and you should continue.
